A worrying number of pictures of animals, but a distinct theme nonetheless!

Check them out and enjoy them all too. Such an amazing abundance of talent.

fancy saturday

I feel like I'm always apologising for the lack of the regular Friday posts - all I can say is that yesterday I was extremely busy enjoying my salted caramels, and I now have my second cold in three and a half weeks. I'm not sure whether cakes are good for the immune system.

Photobucket
Now, I'm not a particularly girly kind of girl, in fact one of my friends laughed when she saw my owl iPhone case, but I have a special love for Donna Wilson's homewares and crazy creatures. Maybe it's those owls again.

I am seriously coveting the knitted bird cushions, and I desperately want to drape my bed in the fairisle blankets. Also on offer are ceramics, stationary, scarves and hats and all manner of curious and beautiful designs.

You can buy on line direct from Donna's site, or alternatively in London I've seen the range carried in SCP on Westbourne Grove (they're in Shoreditch too) and in a homewares boutique in Camden Passage, Islington. Everyone in buying seems to harbour a chutney dream* about running a little shop somewhere - this is just the kind of thing I'd sell, along with Eames chairs and reconditioned anglepoise lamps.

N.B. I couldn't find a link to describe what a 'chutney dream' is, but I was in the pub one Saturday and reading an article in the Times magazine 'You Know You're Middle Aged When...' and it covered the concept of chutney dreams, these are things we all have especially now we're all eco and organic and reusable unbleached cotton bags. Examples of these include: 'I'm going to move to the country and make chutney, but not just any chutney; special organic fusion chutney and put it in beautiful jars inspired by a classic wartime design, just like those lovely St Peter's ale bottles'; 'I'm going to give something back and take up teaching'; 'I'm going to move to the isle of bute and set up a boarding kennel for zebras'.

fancy friday

The concept of fancy friday seems to have fallen by the wayside a little - although I am keen to get it back on board. It's great to be able to celebrate something beautiful on a regular basis.

This week food packaging gets the ff treatment - Lovely Package is a sort of website/blog which collates the best of packaging design ranging from agency commissions seen on supermarket shelves to student projects. To me packaging completes the experience - especially when it's in relation to anything sweet. Something thoughtfully designed and intuitively put together makes the sensation of comsumption so much more pleasureable - so feast your eyes thusly on the cream of the edible crop...

fancy friday

With the catwalk's full of clothing inspired by Betty Draper's wardrobe an the new series about the begin on the BBC, the world is awash with Mad Men fever. But unlike most, who get more excited about the sartorial choices made by the wardobe mistress, or Don's extramarital indiscretions, it's the offices of new agency Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce that really has me excited - particularly Roger Sterling's office as his desk in my dream table. Eero Saarinen's tulip and a Mattioli lamp.

Even the new creative area, and Peggy's new chief hang out looks great - with modular wool sofas and contrasting wall panels. I have to say I like this new look.

fancy friday

Apologies for the lack of a fancy Friday last week, and of posts in general, I've been super busy with work and unfortunately had to go to the funeral of Mr LROC's Grandfather last week - still, I'm hoping to come back in strength for the bank holiday weekend and have just received the excellent news via the Evening Standard that not only is Harvey Nichols introducing a pop-up tea'n'cakes affair but there is also planned to be a London restaurant dedicated to desserts. What perfect madness is that?

This week's fancy friday explores the wonderfuly visual world of gig posters - something in the UK which we rarely get to see. It's all 'Festival Republic presents this...' and 'Mean Fiddler' etc so feast your eyes on these beauts.

Don't you wish every night out was as beautifully designed?

This also gives you a little bit of an insight into what I'm listening to at the moment....

You can find all of these at Gig Posters, before I looked at their site I had no idea there were so many bands with vagina in their name!

fancy friday

I had mentioned that I might make Julia Boggio my fancy Friday but I want to reserve it for inspiring and lovely things that others have done, so without further ado here's Magpie cakes. An American wedding cake company whose cakes look modern and throughly delicious....

fancy friday

Number 2 in a (somewhat irregular series)

Today's Fancy Friday is the somewhat fantastic blog/image bookmarking website Ffffound!

I know that graphic designers love it, that other blogs have a weekly slot devoted to it, and that looking at it lately there is little rhyme or reason for it's succession of images but it is brilliant, and brilliantly inspiring.

Here's this week's favourites...

Is there an E, because if so I need it.

This is both a hilarious font joke and a Truebie joke all in one go. I think I must be a massive geek!

And finally, because we like to release the Marie Antoinette in us all...

Anyway, ffffound can be found at the link above, get stuck into it's graphic inspiration.

fancy friday

Lots of blogs have regular Friday posts where they link to things they love, and I do like to follow the herd, so I've decided to make it Friday thing and provide you with a little visual chewing gum for what is certainly the best day of the week!

I love this multi-layered cake, in fact I might steal the idea next time I am in competition with other bakers. Imagine the surprise when you cut into it.

Next is this gorgeous treat from Flickr - I love the colours, the bokeh, that sense of drifting and escaping upwards into the sky and towards the sun.
